OSHA Challenge Program Success Story L&M Technologies, LLC Logistics Contract NASA – Johnson Space Center Houston, Texas 77058


Background

L&M Technologies is the Prime Contractor for the NASA Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Logistics Operations Contract in Houston, TX; a position they have held since March 1, 2008. As such, the L&M Logistics Team supports JSC in the areas of: Shipping Outbound Freight (to such destinations as the International Space Station and Mars), Receiving Inbound Freight, and Fleet Vehicle Operations.

Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN)

The OSHA and AORN Alliance will provide AORN's members and others, including perioperative healthcare providers and small businesses (e.g., ambulatory surgery centers), with information, guidance, and access to training resources to protect employees' health and safety. In particular, the Alliance will address preventing exposure to bloodborne diseases, and exposure to smoke plume generated from the use of electrosurgery units (ESU) and lasers, and laser safety. Goals of the agreement include:

Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare (AOHP)

The OSHA and AOHP Alliance will focus on protecting employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to patient-handling hazards, bloodborne diseases, and emergency preparedness in healthcare facilities. The goals of the Alliance include:

Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS)

Through the Alliance, OSHA and NETS will work together to help reduce traffic collisions and related deaths and injuries within the nation's workforce. OSHA and NETS will provide employers of all sizes with access to information and training resources and share best practices and technical knowledge regarding workplace traffic safety programs. The Alliance's goals include:

National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

Through the Alliance, OSHA, NWPCA and NIOSH will provide NWPCA's members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' safety. The Alliance will focus on reducing and preventing exposure to hazards associated with use of pallet assembly and disassembly equipment and powered industrial trucks, and addressing occupational health issues, including ergonomics. The Alliance's goals include:

National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA)

Through the OSHA and NUCA Alliance, the organizations will work together to provide NUCA's members and others with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety. The Alliance focuses on reducing and preventing exposure to underground utility construction hazards associated with trenching and excavation, tunneling, and confined space entry. The agreement's goals include:

National Telecommunications Safety Panel (NTSP)

The OSHA and NTSP Alliance will focus on providing NTSP members and others in the telecommunications industry with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety, by addressing ergonomic issues. The Alliance's goals include:

National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute, Inc. (SAAMI)

The OSHA and NSSF/SAAMI Alliance focuses on providing shooting range operators, developers and others, including small businesses, with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them protect employees' health and safety. In particular, the Alliance addresses reducing and preventing exposure to airborne lead and noise. The Alliance's goals include:

National Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP)

Through the OSHA and NSRP Alliance, the organizations will provide NSRP members and others in the shipbuilding industry with information and guidance that will help them protect employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to shipyard safety and health hazards. The Alliance's goals include:

National Safety Management Society (NSMS)

Through the Alliance, OSHA and NSMS will work together to address the effective development and implementation of integrated safety management systems. OSHA and NSMS will provide educational information and training materials on issues that are specific to safety management systems and will develop effective safety management systems' related training.
