The OSHA and AOHP Alliance will focus on protecting employees' health and safety, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to patient-handling hazards, bloodborne diseases, and emergency preparedness in healthcare facilities. The goals of the Alliance include:
Training and education
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise to develop training and education programs and materials on bloodborne diseases and emergency preparedness for healthcare institutions and workers.
Outreach and communication
- Work with OSHA to provide expertise in developing information on the recognition and prevention of workplace hazards, and to provide expertise in developing ways of communicating such information (e.g. print and electronic media, electronic assistance tools and OSHA's and AOHP's Web sites) to employers and employees in the industry.
- Speak, exhibit, or appear at OSHA's or AOHP's conferences, local meetings, or other AOHP sponsored events such as the AOHP Annual National Conference.
- Work with other Alliance participants on specific issues and projects related to patient-handling hazards, bloodborne diseases and emergency preparedness that are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.

- Beyond Getting Started: A Resource Guide for Implementing a Safe Patient Handling Program in the Acute Care Setting (PDF). Through the OSHA and Association of Occupational Health Professionals (AOHP) Alliance, AOHP developed a guide that addresses patient handling with the goal of providing the necessary tools for the occupational health professional to implement a safe patient handling program.
- Beyond Getting Started: Respiratory Protection in Healthcare Settings Web Reference Guide (PDF). Through the OSHA and Association of Occupational Health Professionals (AOHP) Alliance, AOHP developed a reference guide for Web page resources and links that addresses respiratory protection in healthcare.
- Beyond Getting Started: Workplace Violence in Healthcare Setting Web Reference Guide (PDF). Through the OSHA and Association of Occupational Health Professionals (AOHP) Alliance, AOHP developed a reference guide for Web resources that addresses workplace violence in healthcare facilities.
- N95 Respiratory Training and Fit Testing Verification Card (PDF). Through the OSHA and Association of Occupational Health Professionals (AOHP) Alliance and in conjunction with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health's, National Personal Protective Technology Lab, AOHP developed a generic card to provide employees with a simple way to record the respirator make and model on which the s/he was fit tested and to provide safety tips for donning and doffing respirators.
