Company: Chapman Partnership
Location: Miami, Florida
NAICS Code: 6242, Community Food and Housing, and Emergency and Other Relief Services
Chapman Partnership is a not-for-profit organization, providing assistance to people experiencing homelessness in Miami-Dade County. Located in downtown Miami, Florida, Chapman Partnership manages a homeless assistance center. The center specializes in providing comprehensive services, such as emergency beds; food service; case management; mental, physical, and dental care; day care; job development, training; and placement; and housing assistance.
The University of South Florida – Safety-Florida Consultation Program (USF-SFCP) has been working with Chapman Partnership since 2013. Through dedication and hard work, the company has continuously improved their safety and health management systems, self-inspection processes, and training programs. Chapman Partnership’s commitment and management support has always been there.
USF-SFCP safety and health consultants have steadily guided Chapman Partnership in lowering their injury and illness rates. In 2013, the company’s Total Recordable Case Rate (TRC) was 5.83. In 2014, this rate was reduced to 4.86; and by 2015, their TRC rates dropped to 0.98. Similarly in 2013, the company’s days away from work, job transfer, and restriction (DART) rate was also 5.83. The 2014, DART rate was 1.94, and by 2015, their DART rate had dropped to zero. For comparison, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that in 2013, the industry average TRC rate was 4.6, and in 2014, it was 3.5. BLS also reported that the industry average DART rates were 2.1 in 2013 and 1.9 in 2014. (NOTE: 2014 is the most recent year for which these BLS data are available.)
With a TRC rate of 0.98 and DART rate of zero for 2015, Chapman Partnership’s injury and illness rates were at their lowest, easily allowing the company to be accepted into the OSHA Safety and Health Recognition Program (SHARP). As a community food and housing, and emergency and other relief services provider, Chapman Partnership is very proud to be the first organization of its kind in Miami, Florida, to become OSHA SHARP certified. SHARP recognizes small business employers who have used OSHA’s On-site Consultation Program services and operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program.
OSHA's On-site Consultation Program is completely voluntary. These services are separate from enforcement and do not result in penalties or citations. The program offers free, confidential safety and health advice to small and medium-sized businesses in all states across the country and several territories, with priority given to high-hazard worksites. Consultants from state agencies or universities work with employers to identify workplace hazards, provide advice on compliance with OSHA standards, and assist in establishing injury and illness prevention programs. Additional information about OSHA’s On-site Consultation Program and other small business resources is available at www.osha.gov or 1-800-321-OSHA (6742).
