Safety and health programs foster a proactive approach to managing workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness. Rather than reacting to an incident, management and workers collaborate to identify and solve issues before they occur. Safety and health programs have been proven to reduce the incidence of workplace injuries and illnesses. While different program models exist, all effective programs revolve around the core principles of:

  • Management leadership.
  • Worker participation.
  • A proactive process for finding and fixing workplace hazards.

Every workplace in America can and should develop, implement, and maintain a safety and health program. Implementing safety and health programs will save employers and the economy billions of dollars in workers' compensation costs, reduce operating costs, increase worker engagement, and provide workers a voice in the workplace. Safety and health programs will help American businesses to be more competitive in the world market and will ensure that every worker can go home at the end of the day uninjured.

The organizations and companies below support the vision of a safety and health program in every workplace in America. They are committed to promoting the Safe + Sound campaign as a means to make this vision a reality.

If your organization or company is interested in joining the campaign to promote safety and health programs or you would like to learn more please send an email to safeandsoundcampaign@dol.gov for more information.
