Investigation Summary
At 9:45 a.m. on November 8, 2017, an employee was working for a firm that engaged in millwork. The employee was operating a pop up cross-cut saw. He was using it to cut off knots and imperfections from wood flooring. While depressing the saws foot treadle pedal, he reached under the saws guard. This action caused the blade to pop up. The rotating blade amputated the index finger on his right hand. It also lacerated the middle and small fingers on that hand. He was hospitalized. He required surgery that involved revascularization, nerve repair and flexor tendon repair.
