Abstract: At around 5:30 a.m. on February 8, 2008, an employee was working for Plantel Nurseries in Santa Maria, CA. He had been working there for three years. He was lining up a transplanting unit around 5:30 a.m., when he noticed that his hand was cut. He waited until around 6:00 a.m., when he asked a coworker to take him to a hospital. Around 9:00 a.m., he was transferred to Santa Barbara, where he underwent surgery and the partial amputation of two fingers. The employee did not know how the accident occurred, and the management investigation did not reveal how this accident could have occurred. The employer's energy control procedure and other documents were reviewed. No citations were issued.
