Through the Alliance, OSHA and NFIB will make health and safety information and compliance assistance resources available to all employers, especially small and independent businesses, and communicate the need for the implementation of safety and health management system programs in the workplace. The Alliance's goals include:
Outreach and communication
- Work with other Alliance participants on safety and health issues and projects that impact small and independent businesses, especially safety and health management programs, which are addressed and developed through the Alliance Program.
- Develop and promote accessible and easy-to-use tools to encourage and help small business owners create and implement effective safety and health management programs in the workplace.
- Assist in the testing and development of safety and health resources for small businesses.
Promoting the national dialogue on workplace safety and health
- Convene or participate in forums, round table discussions, or stakeholder meetings on independent businesses' safety and health issues including safety and health management programs, to help forge innovative solutions in the workplace.

- A Safe Workplace is a Drug-Free Workplace. An Alliance-developed article discussing drug-free workplace programs that is on NFIB's Tools and Tips webpage. This page contains a database of business articles with information and tips for small-business owners.
- Can You Say "Work Safely" in Español?. An Alliance-developed article focusing on OSHA's Hispanic compliance assistance tools and resources that address safety and health issues in the workplace. The article also includes links to Hispanic-related safety and health information on OSHA's and NFIB's Web sites.
- Consultation Helps Small Businesses Establish Safety and Health Programs. An Alliance-developed article on OSHA's Consultation Program; a free confidential on-site service that employers can use to learn about potential hazards at their worksites and establish or improve safety and health management programs.
- Helping Small Businesses Benefit from Being Drug-Free. An Alliance-developed article about the U.S. Department of Labor's Web tool, "The Drug-Free Workplace Program Builder," which helps small businesses develop customized drug-free workplace policies and programs.
- Send Your Employees a Safe and Sober Message This Holiday Season. An Alliance-developed article discussing the appropriateness of having alcohol at workplace parties or other company-sponsored events that is on NFIB's Tools and Tips webpage.
- "When Safety Is Your Business.". An Alliance-developed article on an Arizona-based fire safety company that discovered the benefits of being drug-free and is taking steps to encourage other small businesses to follow suit.
- Workplace Violence: Training Young Workers in Preventive Strategies. An Alliance-developed article discussing the need for training on preventing workplace violence that is on NFIB's Tools and Tips webpage. This page contains a database of business articles with information and tips for small-business owners. The page also includes links to other OSHA resources on preventing workplace violence.
- Youth Employment: Expanded Protections for Youth Working in Cooking, Roofing and Driving. An Alliance-developed article on the Department of Labor's Employment Standards Administration's Wage and Hour Division's final regulations implementing changes to employment rules for youth. The regulations expand protections for youth working in restaurant cooking, roofing, driving and other areas.
