U.S. Department of Labor, Northern Marianas Technical Institute, and CNMI-OSHA On-Site Consultation Program Collaborate for Second Annual Safety Conference
The first Alliance signed on the Northern Marianas Islands

In August of 2023, OSHA, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI-OSHA) On-Site Consultation Program and the Northern Marianas Technical Institute (NM Tech), formed an alliance to provide Northern Marianas Technical Institute students and the public with information, guidance, and access to training resources that will help them to prevent and reduce worker exposure to safety and health hazards.
In August of 2024, the Alliance hosted the second annual CNMI Safety Conference, which included:
- Training and resources to help prevent and reduce worker exposure to safety and health hazards in industries throughout the commonwealth.
- Over 100 participants.
- Courses on fall protection, scaffolding, health hazards, focus four general industry hazards (Falls, Caught-In or -Between, Struck-By, and Electrocution), heat illness prevention, lock out tag out, and noise pollution hazards.
Classes were also taught by the Guam Contractors Association (GCA) and the University of California San Diego (UCSD) OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC).
The Northern Marianas Technical Institute (NMTech) fosters the professional growth and development of individuals interested in the technical and trades fields. The institute offers courses in construction, automotive, culinary and hospitality industries. In continued partnerships, NMTech will expand to provide courses for the maritime, cosmetology, solar, and aviation industries. The institute will also be offering OSHA's 10-hour and 30-hour general industry safety and health training and its Hard Hat Heroes program.
The OSHA On-Site Consultation Program offers no-cost and confidential occupational safety and health services to small and medium-sized businesses in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and several U.S. territories, with priority given to high-hazard worksites. Consultants from state agencies or universities work with employers to identify workplace hazards and how to fix them, provide advice for compliance with OSHA standards, train and educate workers, and assist in establishing and improving safety and health programs. On-Site Consultation services are separate from OSHA enforcement efforts. To locate the OSHA On-Site Consultation program nearest you, call 1-800-321-OSHA (6742) or visit www.osha.gov/consultation.
