Maintenance Worker Amputates Finger on Conveyor Chain

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on February 13, 2013, Employee #1 was working at a meat packing plant. He was maintaining a conveyor system in the facility's distribution center. Employee #1's finger was caught in a chain, when the driving mechanism started up unexpectedly. He sustained the amputation of the middle finger on his left hand at its distal joint. Employee # 1 went to the firm's health services facility, from which he was taken to the Marshalltown, Iowa, hospital.
