Worker Amputates Finger Tip While Sanitizing Mixer

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on May 26, 2012, Employee #1, a 36-year-old male with Pocino Foods Company (PFC) in Industry California, was sanitizing the horizontal food mixer manufactured by AFECO, model-serial number 1536. While cleaning the mixer Employee #1 amputated his right index finger tip. Employee #1 was transported to Queen of the Valley hospital where he was admitted for at least three nights for treatment to a right index finger tip amputation. The details of the incident are inconclusive; Employee #1 was not available for interviewing during the investigation. According to the employer PFC, there were no witnesses to the incident. The AFECO food mixer is used to blend meats with ingredients. Pocino Foods Company (PFC) is a manufacturer of ready to eat meat foods.
