Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201129624
Event: 03/04/2013
Employee Fractures Back in Fall from Third Floor

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on March 4, 2013, Employee #1 was working on a beam on the third floor of the building at a construction site. A coworker was standing on the third level waiting for the employee to pick up the beam so he could hold the other end and move to attach the beam to a wall. Employee #1 and the coworker were not wearing fall protection. As Employee #1 bent down to grab the beam using the claw of his hammer, he lost his balance and fell to the second floor, a fall height of 12 feet and 11 inches. Employee #1 was taken to Stanford Hospital, where he was hospitalized for eight days and treated for vertebral fracture. After his discharge from the hospital, Employee #1 was transferred to a rehabilitation facility, where he stayed for seven days.
