Employee Amputates Finger in Spin Dryer Equipment

At 6:40 a.m. on August 23, 2011, an employee, a mechanic was doing preventive maintenance work on the lettuce spin dryer equipment. He amputated his hand while working on the equipment. Upon further investigation, the employee failed to ensure proper lockout and tagout procedures while performing his job duties. He was taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital where he remained for more than 24 hours and treated for finger amputation.
