Event: 08/20/2012
Employee Suffers Head Trauma in Fall from a Balcony

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on August 20, 2012, Employee #1, a Journeyman carpenter, was working from a scaffold installing siding on to the side of a home. The employee was on his way down from scaffolding, and stepped down onto the unfinished balcony rail. Employee #1 lost his balance as he stepped onto the corner of the balcony rail. Employee #1 went sideway in motion falling approximately 11 ft to the ground. The employee landed on the ground with his head and shoulder first, his body hit the ground in a vertical position. Emergency first aid was provided by his coworkers and was followed by Paramedics from the City of Encinitas Fire Department. Employee #1 was transported by Life Flight Helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he was hospitalized in excess of 24 hours for trauma type injuries to the head and body fractures.
