Investigation Summary
At approximately 9:00 a.m. on February 20, 2014, Employee #1, a manager, was working at a supermarket and in the deli department area of the store. One of the meat slicers needed sharpening. As she began sharpening the slicer, her left hand contacted its blade. Employee #1 sustained a fingertip amputation on her little finger and lacerations on the other fingers of the hand. The meat slicer involved was a Bizerba with Model Number SE 12D and Serial Number 1594568. The sharpener involved was a Bizerba with Serial Number 1593257. She was not wearing any protective gloves, which were required for the task. Employee #1 was transported to a medical center, where she underwent treatment and was then hospitalized.
