Employee Dies of Apparent Heart Attack

On July 13, 2010, an employee, a maintenance mechanic for the Hamilton Memorial Hospital District was working as an Environmental Technician filling in for a short staff at the Nursing Center which is attached to the hospital. The employee had not been seen for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. His supervisor went searching for him and found him at approximately 10:20 a.m. slumped over on the commode in an employee restroom located near the Nursing Center conference area. The supervisor immediately dialed the emergency room that responded and then called a code blue. The employee was unresponsive after 30 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and administration of cardiac drugs, and was pronounced dead at 11:20 a.m. No autopsy was to be performed. Emergency room medical records indicated that that there was a history of alcoholism and heavy tobacco smoking.
