Employee Fractures Knee in Fall in Employee Restroom

At 9:15 a.m. on March 27, 2012, Employee #1, Class A Longshoreman and signalman of SSA Terminals was taking his morning break. Their crew had been transported from the working dock up to the Longshoreman's break area, and they were entering the men's rest room. Employee #1 lost his balance and fell while walking into the rest room, landing on his knees, resulting in a fractured right upper leg. The rest room area was clean, dry, well lit and well maintained. SSA Terminals was a stevedoring company, which unloaded container ships in Long Beach Harbor. He was then transported by Long Beach Paramedics to St. Mary's Medical Center, where he was hospitalized. The following day, surgery was conducted to repair the fractured femur.
