Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 170786289
Event: 03/05/2012
Employee Cuts the Tip Off the Middle Finger with a Saw Blade

On March 5, 2012 Employee #1 was attempting to cut "jack rafters" which involved a compound double angle cut. In order to perform this cut Employee #1 held open the bottom guard of the saw with his left hand thumb. This was necessary to keep the saw from binding. Employee #1 had nearly completed the cut when the saw jumped backward and the blade contacted and amputated the tip of his left middle finger. Employee #1 was driven to a local hospital's emergency room and later seen by a hand specialist who performed a flap procedure to remedy the amputated left middle finger.
