Employee Suffers Serious Injury at Car Dealership

At 2:35 p.m. on May 11, 2011, Employee #1 was working with a coworker in the performance of a predelivery inspection on a Ford Escape in bay number two of the service and repair shop in the dealership building. Employee #1 instructed his coworker to turn the steering wheel of the car being inspected, while he stood in front of the vehicle, bent forward into the engine compartment inspecting the steering column. The coworker was unable to see that Employee #1 inserted his left index finger into the universal joint while it was turning into a closed position, and severed the tip of the finger. The coworker, suddenly heard Employee #1 request that he stop turning the steering wheel. Employee #1 severed part of his left hand index finger. Employee #1 received first aid, and transported to the Medical Center Emergency.
