Investigation Summary
On November 1, 2010, Employees #1 through #10 were working in a new section of utility tunnel on the University of Utah campus. A power failure at the High Temperature Water Plant caused a valve to open and release water that had been heated to a temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Steam then traveled throughout the old and new sections of the tunnel system, burning all ten employees. Five of the ten employees were hospitalized for treatment.
