Employee Crushes Fingers in Printing Press

On December 3, 2009, Employee #1 was operating a Heidelburg CD-120 sheet fed printing press in wash mode. He reached into an area between an airline cover above the plate changer guard and the ink fountain to remove a piece of paper from the fountain roller. His left hand was pulled in and caught in between two rollers. He was able to shut down the machine. Other coworkers and the Sparks Fire Department personnel were able to cut off the two rollers and free Employee #1's hand. He suffered a fractured finger and skin damage that required reconstructive surgery. The pinky finger of his left hand required amputation because of subsequent injuries. After surgery, he was hospitalized.
