Employee Amputates Fingertips in Press Machine

On December 19, 2011, Employee #1 was operating a pasta press machine, and the airlock became blocked by an accumulation of spaghetti. While the machine was running, Employee #1 removed two butterfly nuts on the plexiglass shield and put his right hand down into an opening approximately four to five inches. When his right hand went past the bottom of the opening, Employee #1 felt a sharp pain. Mixer blades amputated the tips of his middle and right fingers. Employee #1 was not hospitalized.
