Employee Amputates Hand on Jump Saw

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on October 13, 2010, Employee #1, a woodworking machine operator, was positioning material on the left side of the jump saw using both of his hands. He stacked the wood material four high and was holding the wood pieces to keep them in place. The foot pedal for the saw was loose, and he was able to pull it out and reposition it. While he was holding the stack of wood, he pressed the foot pedal with his right foot and his right hand came in contact with the saw blade. Employee #1 was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was admitted and surgery was performed to amputate his hand. He was hospitalized for four days.
