Employee's Fingers Are Amputated in Moving Rollers

On July 8, 2010, Employee #1, of The Sherwin Williams Company, primarily a manufacturer of powder paint products, reached down to retrieve a putty knife that fell in between the running chill roll (Steel Craft Inc. Chill Rolls, Job Number 17279) in Line 5, 70 mm Product Line. Employee #1 had assumed the chill roll had stopped running when he raised the A-guard interlock at the same time he reached down for his putty knife. Employee #1's left thumb, index and middle fingers were amputated.
