Event: 10/16/2009
Employee's Ribs Are Fractured, Lung Is Punctured, in Fall

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on October 16, 2009, Employee #1, a carpenter, was installing joist approximately 11 ft above a garage area. He was setting a joist, approximately 15.5 ft long, weighing approximately 40 pounds. He swung the joist across and it did not reach the beam on the other side. It slid down towards the floor causing the other side of the joist to come up. The joist was under his arm and when this side came up, it caused him to fall forward. He stepped on an unsecured joist which gave way and he fell approximately 11ft to a cement floor. As he fell, he struck a brace with the side of his body, fracturing four ribs and puncturing his lung. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
