Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202458022
Event: 11/20/2012
Lineman Injured in Fall While Exiting Bucket Truck

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on November 20, 2012, Employee #1, a 51-year-old male journey lineman with Asplundh Construction Dba Asplundh Electrical Construction was exiting the bucket of a truck mounted aerial bucket truck. Employee #1 used his hand to grab the hand bracket near the bucket, and went to place his foot on the step near the bucket. While Employee #1 was climbing down, his foot did not make good contact with the step, causing him to lose his grip on the hand hold, and fall from the top of the tool box mounted on the bed of the truck to the ground below. Employee #1 received unspecified fracture injuries when he fell from a height in excess of 40 in. Employee #1 was on an Altec Bucket Truck that was mounted on a three axle truck chassis. The vehicle did not have guardrails around the bed of the truck so that the linemen could hold onto when exiting the bucket. The employer was a high voltage power line construction and maintenance company that provided services to power companies.
