Employee Amputates Finger While Unjamming Molding Machine

At approximately 11:45 a.m. on November 3, 2009, Employee #1 was feeding stock into the molding machine when it kicked back, causing the stock to splinter. Employee #1 was clearing the machine when the accident occurred. According to Employee #1 and his supervisors, Employee #1 had stopped the machine and lifted the chip breaker. The chip breaker should have locked into place with a pin mechanism; however the pin had not locked the breaker in the elevated the position. The chip breaker came down crushing Employee #1's hand and fingers. Employee #1 suffered an unspecified amputation and was hospitalized.
