Employee Partially Amputates Finger While Troubleshooting

On September 27, 2009, Employee #1, a truck mechanic, was troubleshooting a noise on a truck. In preparation for troubleshooting the noise, the truck was turned off and the hood to the engine compartment was popped open. Employee #1 thought that the noise was coming from the truck's AC belt drive. As he reached into the engine compartment to test the tension of the belt, the truck driver turned on the engine. This caused the belt to turn-over, catching one of Employee #1's fingers in the belt drive. Employee #1 was taken to Rideout Hospital in Marysville, where he was treated for the partial amputation of his left middle finger, which removed 0.75 inches of the tip of his finger.
