Employee Attempts to Stop Falling Rock, Crushes Fingers

On June 24, 2009, Employee #1 and a coworker were setting decorative stone at a residence. During the operation, he placed a 60 lb stone at a height of approximately 5 ft. He stepped back to determine how the stone should fit with the other stones. Vibration from other work inside the residence caused the stone to fall. He tried to catch the rock and caught his hand under it as it landed on another rock, crushing several fingers. Employee #1 was transported to a medical center, where he underwent treatment and surgery, involving amputations, and was hospitalized.
