On February 7, 2011, an employee was performing a carpentry maintenance task at a residence to replace rotting facia wood. The worker found he had not cut enough off a length of wood. So, he attempted to cut it to the correct size while standing on a step ladder. The ladder moved, causing him to lose control of the electric circular saw and amputate the ring, middle, and index fingers of his left hand at the middle knuckle. The worker was hospitalized for two days for surgical treatment. He was an independent handyman.
