Investigation Summary
On March 9, 2010, Employee #1 was working as a full-time, direct-hire employee for a manufacturer of custom laminate cabinetry. He was using a Delta Unisaw table saw to make a lengthwise cut in a 3-inch-wide by 36-inch-long piece of laminate cabinet material. The table saw blade was not guarded, and Employee #1 was not using a push stick. When Employee #1 reached into the work area to remove the waste stock at the end of the cut, the thumb and index finger of his left hand struck the spinning saw blade. His thumb was amputated at the joint, and his left index finger was severely lacerated. Reconstructive surgery was required to save the finger. He was not hospitalized.
