Investigation Summary
On June 19, 2009, an employee was removing a coil section from an air conditioning unit that weighed approximately 1,000 lbs. The employee and five other coworkers were pushing the coil section so that it slid about six inches per push. On the last push the coil unexpectedly slid about two feet into another riser pipe where the employee's thumb was pinched. The wound was minor requiring a band aid at the time. Two days later his thumb became infected. He was admitted to the hospital for intravenous antibiotics and released approximately 30 hours later.
