Worker Struck and Killed by a Toyota

At approximately 5:12 a.m. on February 20, 2009, Employee #1, a 35-year-old male, with Rice Construction Company and was working at a job site located on Cactus Avenue East of Decatur Boulevard. Employee #1 parked a 2001 Ford Super Duty pick up truck eastbound in the left of three travel lanes setting up for work in the nearby manhole. Employee #1 was unloading a ladder from the truck when a 1999 Toyota Corolla, traveling eastbound on Cactus, and in the left travel lane and failed to stop, striking Employee #1 and the work truck. Employee #1 was pronounced dead by responding medical personnel.
