Event: 05/19/2009
Employee Is Killed When Electrical Wires Arc

On May 19, 2009, Employee #1, a journeyman electrician, and a coworker were troubleshooting runway lights. Employee #1 entered the manhole as the coworker watched from outside manhole to verify that the wires being inspected were not hot. After inspecting a couple of wires, the coworker thought they were done and stood up and turned away. He then turned back around a few seconds later to see Employee #1 holding a set of wires in his hands. When Employee #1 pulled them apart, they created a 5kV arc that electrocuted and killed him.
