Employee Falls Off Ladder

On March 7, 2012, Employee #1 was working on a roof, and had placed a partially extended 30 ft long ladder up against an 18 ft high horizontal beam. A coworker was holding onto the bottom, as Employee #1 ascended the ladder. Employee #1 brought with him, a rope to secure the ladder onto the beam. Employee #1 had tied the rope around the ladder already, and threw the rope over the horizontal beam and grabbed the end to finish, tying the ladder in place. Employee #1 was pulling the rope taut, to tightly secure the ladder. As Employee #1 did this, the rope snapped and he fell backwards to the concrete deck. Employee #1 was driven to a local clinic, and later to a general hospital. Employee #1 was treated for a broken left leg and a shattered ankle. employee #1 was hospitalized approximately 25 days and had undergone 2 surgeries.
