Employee Seriously Burned by Fermentation Vat Accident

On July 22, 2010 Employee #1 was cleaning a stainless steel fermentation vat number four tank with hot water. During the cleaning process, Employee #1 was standing and trying to fix a leaking pressure relief valve on the vertical water circulating blow off line of the tank. The pump was stopped and there was no pressure in the system. The valve was connected to the pipeline system by a clover clamp. The clamp failed, allowing the valve disconnected from the pipe and hot water splashed on Employee #1. Employee #1 sustained second and third degree burns on his left shoulder, upper arm and left scapular area.
