Employee Sustains Head Injury in Fall from Truck Liftgate

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on March 1, 2010, Employee #1 was standing on a food delivery truck ramp (liftgate), washing the cargo with a water hose. When Employee #1 tried to pull the 50-foot long hose from the nearby pressure unit, the hose got stuck, and Employee #1 tripped over the hose and fell approximately 45 inches from the truck to ground below. Employee #1 was hospitalized overnight in a local hospital, given stitches in his head, and released next day from hospital around 6:00 p.m. Employee #1 had been employed as a laborer for about 2.5 years for Diana's Mexican Food Products Inc. Diana's Mexican Food Products Inc. has been in business of making tortillo products in El Monte, CA, and employed about 200 employees. Employee #1 had been working alone at the time of the accident. The employer reported the accident to Cal/Osha within the time frame required by regulation.
