Investigation Summary
On July 2, 2009, Employee #1 was on a watermelon harvesting crew, pitching watermelons. The work started at 6:30 a.m. The temperatures were about 60 degrees Fahrenheit. At 11:30 a.m. when temperature was 82 degrees Fahrenheit, Employee #1 asked to be replaced. The crew supervisor gave Employee #1 a one-hour lunch break. At 12:09 p.m. the supervisor put Employee #1 into the company truck with the air conditioning on, called for ambulance, and drove to the company office location. Employee #1 sustained a heart attack and was hospitalized.
