Investigation Summary
On February 7, 2011 Employee # 1 was using a Dwelt 6.5 inch cordless circular saw (serial number 956919, model number DC390) to cut a wood board. Employee #1 was using the saw to cut a wood board measured approximately 1 inch by 4 inches by 30 inches, resting on two saw horses, the saw's retracting lower guard, which is made of plastic, became jammed in the wood board. Employee #1 loses control of the saw while he attempted to release the dead man's switch to shut off the saw. Employee # 1 finger was amputated when struck by the saw. Employee # 1 was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland, California, where he was treated for left little finger amputation.
