Two Roofers While Laying Down a Tarp Fall from Roof

At approximately 3:45 p.m., on October 21, 2010, Employee #1 and Employee #2, both carpenters with Van Every Construction Inc., were laying a tarp on a roof that was approximately twenty-two feet off the ground. Employee #1 and Employee #2 were not wearing any fall protection nor were protected by any fall equipment on the eave of the roof. While the two employees were in the process of laying down the tarp, Employee #1, the one closest to the eave of the roof started sliding. Employee #1 asked Employee #2 to hold onto the tarp but both continued to fall to grade. Employee #1 and Employee #2 both suffered multiple fractures on their legs and ribs in the fall and were transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland for medical treatment.
