Employee Falls Through Skylight, Later Dies

On June 14, 2008, Employee #1, a laborer for a roofing crew, was installing 26-gauge metal sheeting roofing material as part of a reroofing job on a steel structure. Employee #1 was working adjacent to the foreman on the roof. Employee #1 reportedly walked a short distance to retrieve a piece of ridge cap, picked up the ridge cap, took a step and fell through a panel covering a skylight. Employee #1 fell approximately 14 ft to the concrete floor. Employee #1 was hospitalized for approximately two days with severe head injuries, and died on June 16, 2008. No fall protection was in use, and the skylight had not been covered or guarded.
