Employee Sustains Multiple Fractures in Fall from Ladder

On October 20, 2008, Employee #1, a welder, together with two coworkers, was loading fabricated steel assemblies onto a trailer for delivery. The assemblies were placed on the trailer in an "A" frame configuration, but were not secured to one another or to the trailer. Employee #1 placed a ladder against the trailer with the intention of climbing high enough to strap the two assemblies together, before securing them to the trailer. When he was on the ladder at a height of approximately 5 ft, the load shifted and started falling towards the ladder he was standing on. Employee #1 jumped off the ladder just before the load hit it. He fell to the ground and hit a curb. Employee #1 sustained multiple fractures and was hospitalized.
