Investigation Summary

On November 5th 2008, an automobile accident occurred on an oval high speed test track on an automobile proving ground. Three vehicles were stopped in the interior lane on a straight length of track. The driver of the operator of the middle vehicle, Employee #1, pulled into the adjacent left lane. A test vehicle, operated by Employee #2, was traveling in the lane that Employee #1 was pulling into. Employee #1 was traveling between five to eight miles per hour. Employee #2 was traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour. Employee #1 was in a rear-end collision with Employee #2. Employee #1 suffered serious internal injuries and died approximately two months after the collision. The event occurred on a dry surface and it was dark. Both vehicles had functioning head lights and tail lights. The air bag of Employee #1's vehicle did not deploy because it was not designed to deploy during a rear-end collision.
