Employee's Foot Is Crushed When Press Tips Over

On October 10, 2007, an operator of a Crown standup forklift was performing a change over, which was moving a skid containing two barrels of metal power into place behind a 10 Ton Gasbarre Forging Press. The forklift operator began backing up he lifted up on the handle of the controls and it jerked and lifted the press up, tipping it forward causing it to fall towards an employee at the front of the press performing a tooling change. As a result of the press tipping over, it fell on the employees left foot trapping him. As a result, the employee's left foot was crushed. He was transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was admitted and received surgery to install six pins and reconstruct his left foot.
