Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201363215
Event: 03/31/2008
Employee Falls from Unsecured Balcony, Later Dies

At approximately 1:38 p.m. on March 1, 2008, Employee #1 and a coworker arrived at a nearly completed residential construction site to complete some punch list items. The home was built in a flood plain which required elevated construction. Employee #1 removed some plex tubing from the kitchen area and walked out the front door to throw the tubing off the balcony. The railing on the balcony was wedged into position and was not secured. It was left unsecured in anticipation that they would remove the section to allow entry of appliances that were to be installed. Employee #1 came into contact with the railing which gave way. He fell 11 ft and died later at the hospital.
