Employee's hand infected by embedded piece of metal

At approximately 9:00 a.m. on November 18, 2007, Employee #1 was pulling electrical wire at a job site in Soledad, CA. As he was working, a small piece of metal beccame embedded in his hand. He was treated at the Urgent Care facility in Salinas, CA, and sent to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital for X-rays because the metal piece could not be found in his hand. Employee #1 was then sent back to Urgent Care and released with anti-inflammatory medication and pain killers. Employee #1 was scheduled for an appointment at 4:00 p.m. the next day, but when he showed up for work the next morning his hand was beginning to swell and he was in a great deal of pain. The employer sent him to the hospital, where he was admitted and underwent surgery that same day. Employee #1 was hospitalized for five days.
