Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 202506168
Event: 11/02/2007
Employee Fractures Leg in Fall

At approximately 8:45 p.m. on November 2, 2007, Employee #1 was crossing from the railroad track adjacent to the loading dock to the back railroad track. Employee #1 crossed between two rail cars by an unapproved method. Employee #1 attempted to cross at the knuckle (the metal couplings holding two rail cars together) by grabbing a metal connector bar attached to the coupling and the rail car. The coupling was two feet in the air and parallel to the ground. Employee #1 put his foot on the metal connector bar and attempted to pry himself up. Employee #1's foot slipped from the metal connector bar and he fell backwards from a height of approximately two feet and his left leg landed on the metal rail of the railroad track. The fall resulted in a fracture of his left femur. Employee #1 was hospitalized.
