Event: 09/20/2007
Employee Hospitalized after Falling from Extension Ladder

On December 3, 2008, an ironworker employee was using a Green Bull 32-foot fiberglass extension ladder to reach the grab line on a piece of horizontal steel beam that was being erected. The grab line was approximately 6 feet long. The employee descended the ladder and fell 2 feet onto the corrugated metal decking. He suffered a fractured right tibia below the knee and was treated and admitted to the local hospital. The portable ladder was placed on a vertical upright column, and the side rails were not secured and stabilized on a rigid surface. The ladder was supported by the rung.
