Employee Burned by Rotating Shaft

An employee was welding a part on the outside of a carton conveyor when a supervisor activated the conveyor. The welder's sleeve became wrapped around a nearby unguarded rotating jackshaft and pulled him into the mechanism. Friction from the rotating shaft burned the skin on the inside of his left arm. The worker was treated at the employer's workers health clinic and released the same day. Four days after the accident, he was referred to the burn unit at a medical center, where he was hospitalized for his injury.
