Investigation Summary

On July 4, 2007, Employee #1, a sales associate, was working in the store during a renovation and remodel construction project. A sheet vinyl curtain was dropped from the ceiling to the floor to isolate the construction area from the sales floor. A partial wall in the construction zone was guyed to a cleat affixed to the floor approximately 10 to 15 inches from the curtain. Employee #1 was assisting a bridal registrant scan selected house wares. The house wares were on a fixture which was pushed within 10 inches of the barrier. As she scanned an article on the backside of the fixture, she lost her balance, causing her to step into the curtain and trip over the cleat. The fall resulted in a fractured hip. Employee #1 was hospitalized for her injury.
