Investigation Summary

Investigation Nr: 201089265
Event: 05/18/2007
Employee Is Killed When Struck by Motor Vehicle

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on May 18, 2007, Employee #1 and a coworker were working at a large fruit and vegetable ranch traversed by a North-South bound highway. They were returning to the maintenance shop, traveling west bound on the ranch dirt road. They were riding all terrain vehicles, 1991 Honda TRX 200's. The weather was partly cloudy, warm, and dry, and there were no visual obstructions in any direction of travel. Employee #1 sped ahead and failed to stop at the edge of the road to check for on-coming traffic. He was struck by a pickup truck, a 2002 Chevy 3500 with a trailer, traveling north bound on the highway, approximate 55-60 mph. Employee #1 was killed.
